Backpacking Tips: Planning Your Dream Trip Or Gap Year

hi YouTube psycho traveler here today I’m going to be discussing how to plan your dream trip first things first set your budget your budget will determine everything from where you go and how long you go and the total experience then you’re gonna get from traveling your budget needs will differ in different parts of the world if you want to go to Western Europe you’re gonna need a lot more money to travel for the same amount of time than your travel in Eastern Europe so as I said don’t determine how long you can travel for because your budget is going to determine that for you to decide on where you want to go we’ve all got dreams if you like me I want to go everywhere so pick a place Europe Asia Australasia Africa wherever it’s always better to have too many places on your list than not enough three decide when you’re going for example high season it’s going to be packed the attractions is going to be queues for hours hostels will be round fault flight prices sky rockets in high season so if possible go low season but if you can’t and you have to go high season put it in your budget expect to pay more even at restaurants they will hanker the prices up because it’s high season and they know you have to eat oh don’t do too many places at once the amount of travelers that I have met who skipped from place to place mending a day or two in each I don’t in my opinion I don’t feel they experience the culture so relax take your time absorb the culture but don’t stay too long in one place because you will get restless energy eat and 5 my final tip do your research especially if you’re a first time traveler or backpacker do your research have a look at different hostels have a look at the prices and how fluctuates don’t just Google a tour to the Pyramids of Giza and expect the first one to be the price you have to pay which you get over there haggler little if it’s something if you like me I like to plan and book everything before I leave however this can allow you to miss out aren’t a load of opportunities for example you could go and meet a really nice group of friends from a hostel who have their own boat and they’re going to go and travel through the Greek islands but you can’t go because you’re on your way to Croatia and you’ve already buckets everything and you don’t want to waste that money book ahead but be flexible so there you have it there’s my five backpacking tips to planning your dream trip so please subscribe below and check out my other videos where are we going into a bit more depth about females traveling alone and how to choose the right hostel all right thanks guys see you later

  1. My planned journey is Madrid-Rome-Paris-Amstedam-Berlin-Helsinki-Copenhagen-Stockholm-London-Home (Birmingham)

How do you recommend getting around countries? I was planning on flying to most but taking the train from Paris to Amsterdam and the train from London to Birmingham?

  2. This is very weird. My next video will be entitled: Getting around, Bus, Train or Plane! So I shall be explaining my recommendations there. I am from Birmingham too! πŸ™‚

  3. That's awesome, I shall make sure to watch it! Haha gap years must be a Birmingham thing πŸ˜‰

Any recommendations on what type of bag to take (30L rucksack, etc.) I'm trying to find a bag that can pass for hand luggage? + Any tips on packing your items using as little room as possible?

  4. Oooo! These are all going to be my upcoming videos! At least I kind of know what my audience wants, right? When are you planning on heading off? Check with your airline provider what dimensions you can carry as hand luggage. 35L would be a good bet! I brought a beautiful new 75L bag last weekend for my trip to Australia in August.

If you're not planning on heading off very soon, then I would wait and see my videos. But if you are going super soon then I am more than happy to give you some tips

  5. Hi Jenny! My next two videos will be on What to pack, and how to pack πŸ™‚ Should be filming them in the next few days hopefully! Glad you like the videos πŸ˜€

  6. Hi your videos are great I'm heading off to Australia next January cannot wait!! I'm not sure weather to take a backpack or hold all as this is my first time travelling!! Which would u advise?

  7. Hi there πŸ™‚ I too am off to Australia in August. I would totally recommend a backpack, but make sure you don't over pack! My next video (out in a couple of weeks) will be on what to pack and how not to overpack so that may help you πŸ™‚

  8. Have you ever been to Russia? I'm wondering if it's worth it to go through the process of obtaining a visa for only 3 or 4 days there…

  9. Like say I would want to go from Budapest to Moscow then to Warsaw (with multiple cities before and after these), in your opinion would it be worth the extra money and time spent getting a visa to travel to Russia, or would you simply cut that part out?

  10. Well, this is completely your choice. If you really want to go, then by all means do it πŸ™‚ But if money is tight and time is not on your side, you may want to tackle such a huge place another time so you can spend more time there and really enjoy it πŸ™‚

  11. Thanks. I am glad you like them! Italy and Greece. Wonderful! Loved both places. Amazing weather. Amazing food and a truly amazing history! You will have a blast! πŸ™‚

  12. i so badily wanna go to australia for a working gap year… but at the same time scaried to do it simply because of being across the other side of the world with possibly no job or place to live or friends xD

  13. Well that is exactly what I shall be doing in 6 days time. So I shall be doing a lot of videos on Oz and Working Holiday Visas πŸ™‚

  14. My dream is to travel during my gap year after college but it seems so unnattainable! Can you do a video on the cheapest places in Europe? I didn't know Eastern Europe was cheaper..but like which places? I will have a job my gap year and if I can make enough, my parents will give me some money to travel too!

  15. Hey! I'm a first time traveler, Me and some of my mates are planing a backpacking trip through Europe this summer. I've never been to Europe before. Can you please suggest a few countries which are perfect for first time travelers such as us? (length of trip would be roughly around 16-18 days)
