the hip belts are easiest to install if you
are just working with the bare frame. for this pack I am going to be installing a 3
piece belt. the 3 piece belt and the 1 piece install in the same manner. On the inside
you have two pieces of Velcro that connect together. Those pieces of Velcro coordinate
with these two pieces on the frame itself. Our first step is going to be to run the 2
inch webbing through as well as the one inch webbing that runs to your shoulder straps.
Now we use a small piece of plastic, like this, to cover the Velcro, you can use paper,
you can use cardboard. It helps guide it in with the Velcro adhering to itself. Once you
get it kind of threaded in, you grab hold of the 2 inch belt, and weave it in. And it
is a tight, snug fit. I will run it up to the frame. Once you have it centered on there,
you can slide your spacer out, and the Velcro will connect. From there, make sure that the
1 inch webbing is rolled back around there. Its a little bit tight, but as the circumference
comes around, everything works its way out. Then we will move to the opposite side, and
do the exact same thing. You do have to bend the frame a little bit. Put the webbing through
first. Slide our spacer on. Pull on the two inch webbing. Slide it up. Slide your spacer
out. Re-align the 1 inch webbing. Now your are set. On the bottom of the belt, you will
have a connection tab. Push the lumbar area down to seat the Velcro. Now you are set and
ready to go. The last step, is to connect the shoulder straps back on the frame. The
easiest way to do this is to roll the frame back over to get the correct roll in the strap.
Drop it in from the top, thread it through. Then replace the 2 inch webbing, it is easiest
if you poke a corner through first, then pull. When I tighten this down, I don’t tighten
it too tight. You can actually vary the amount of pressure you get in the center. You can
vary how the belt pulls, by where you position the webbing through the trislide with the
non-slip fabric. I can back it off a little bit more, like this, and it will act more
like it is pulling straight through the foam through the center of the tip of the belt.
Or if you prefer more pressure right in the middle of the belt, you can tighten this up
more, and you will more pull directly from the frame. And that’s how you attach the belt.
