Playthrough: Front Mission 3 – Alisa’s story – Part 19

We’re currently inside the Philippines rebels’ headquarters in Davao. Liu is discussing with the leader Bamarm to convince him… …to invade Luzon so that they can stop the OCU from replicating MIDAS; Liu gets Bamarm’s favour by promising DHZ military support… …and our friends are left free to look around the city while they discuss things. Before we go, I have a look at the Web… …First we go to the NCS site to use that password we got from the Armored Kinkakuji site: we don’t get anything special from that… …Just some random confidential coporate communications. We also have a look at the Philippines military Website… …which a rebel operator gave us the address of (as usual, troops deployment and nothing useful). As an aside… …so far we’ve come across a lot of sites with message boards and news, all of which will be getting updates at various points during the story… …I won’t bother checking them out as soon as they arrive, I’d rather take a look at all of them at once at certain points… …Unfortunately, this way I might miss something, as sites like the JBNN don’t keep the history of the old news; therefore… …if you want to read all the updates in the game, I suggest you look up Unos Hambalos’s Network Transcript at GameFAQs… …After this Web browsing session, we go to the guest room at about 5:20 Side note: Alisa seems to know a lot; I suppose she’s had plenty of opportunities to study military information. At this point… …it’s worth noting that in Emma’s story we’d be viewing this and other events in the game from exactly the opposite side… …i.e. we’d end up siding with the Philippines government defending Taal Base from the rebels (with different allies, of course)… …After this short exchange, we’re left free to Move outside (we can also return to the Command Room, but they won’t be done discussing… …until we’ve done some things in the city), which we do, to be treated to a nice nighttime view Side note: this is our first city view; the only difference from the usual room view is that instead of the main menu… …we get to select the location to Move this way, and we also don’t get any other option. Let’s stop by the wanzer shop first As soon as we enter, we get a scene with a ‘snotty girl’ (who we find to be a local rich girl) and her personal ‘butler’ Pierre… …Kazuki apparently can’t stand her behaviour towards the shopkeeper and gets so angry with her that she leaves (if you couldn’t tell already, Kazuki has a very short fuse ^^)… …After this scene, the shopkeeper will give us a couple tutorials about buying in wanzer shops: the first one is about buying parts… …(I don’t find this very useful, since it’s so similar to the Setup tutorial we’ve already gone through), and the second one… …is about upgrading parts (at about 10:20; this is much more important, so please watch it; some comments afterwards at 13:20) We’re now free to buy stuff and upgrade our wanzers, provided we have the money for it. We’ll be doing upgrades in the next segment… …because it’s a more delicate part (if you plan to switch parts around to get more Battle Skills, you might have to upgrade more parts… …and thus end up spending a lot more money). We’ll be coming across several shops like this one during the story, all with different stuff in stock… …The parts on sale here are nothing we haven’t already seen: those from the wanzers we start with, plus some Kirishima wanzers… …What’s more interesting is they sell new Weapons, as well as some Backpacks; there isn’t much choice for the latter, it’s either the same ones we have… …or a BPT3A, which boosts power by 30 (but weighs 10, so the net power gain is 20). I decide to give Liu that extra power… …so that he may eventually carry a Grenade type Weapon, but we’ll see how it goes. As for the Weapons, there are more powerful ones on sale… …for every Weapon Type we have: you’ll see that they all offer a small but still significant increase in Attack at the cost of extra weight… …Getting more weight doesn’t slow down the wanzer or anything, we just have to watch the limit, for we can’t equip heavier stuff… …if the remaining weight goes negative. There’s also the Melee% statistic to keep an eye on: it’s effectively bonus damage for Melee Attacks… …which decreases as your wanzer is weighted down; it usually isn’t much of a factor, and there’s the Tackle Battle Skills… …which add the weight of the wanzer to the Attack, which may counteract the Melee% loss. Anyway, we get better Weapons for everyone… …buy some Shields for Liu and Alisa, and have a quick look at the rest: there’s just two extra Items on sale, Shield Repair and Shield Mx… …which repair some or all Shield durability (I don’t usually get these, they’re too situational).
