DARLENE: IT’S A SCHOOL NIGHT FOR HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS HERE IN CENTRAL OHIO… AND MORE THAN A DOZEN SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE PREPPING FOR THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES TOMORROW. DARLENE: DELAWARE, GAHANNA, WESTERVILLE, WORTHINGTON, TEAYS VALLEY… KIDS AT ALL THESE DISTRICTS ARE HEADING BACK TO SCHOOL TOMORROW MORNING. AND MANY MORE ARE GETTING READY TO GO BACK IN THE COMING DAYS AND WEEKS… NBC4 IS RAMPING UP OUR “STUFF THE BACKPACK” CAMPAIGN. DARLENE: TODAY NEW ALBANY- PLAIN LOCAL SCHOOLS PICKED UP SEVERAL BOXES. ADMINISTRATORS THERE SAY, ABOUT 500 KIDS IN THE DISTRICT COULD BENEFIT FROM YOUR DONATIONS. THEY SAY YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT SOME FAMILIES ARE GOING THROUGH… SO THIS COULD BE A HUGE HELP FOR THEM. PATRICK GALLAWAY, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, NEW ALBANY-PLAIN LOCAL SCHOOLS: “WE KIND OF TAKE FOR GRANTED THAT IF YOU’RE A FAMILY OF ONE TO TWO CHILDREN YOU JUST SEEN ONE BACKPACK AND YOU DON’T THINK ABOUT THE VOLUME THAT IT TAKES TO OUTFIT AN ENTIRE CLASSROOM OR AN ENTIRE SCHOOL. THIS PROGRAM’S JUST REALLY MEANINGFUL IN THE CENTRAL OHIO COMMUNITY.” DARLENE: IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO DONATE. WE’RE ACCEPTING DONATIONS THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH. YOU CAN FIND A LIST AND MAP OF DROP-OFF LOCATIONS ON OUR WEBSITE- NBC4-EYE- DOT-COM. DARLENE: AND THE LARGEST DISTRICT IN THE STATE KICKS OF ITS SCHOOL YEAR NEXT WEEK.
